BELLINGHAM - Officers grabbed a 27-year-old man as he reached under the seat of his truck yesterday and trained their guns on another suspect in a traffic stop that resulted in a marijuana-dealing charge, police and a witness said.
Pedro Alvarez, of 214 Rock Ridge Drive, Apt. 8, Woonsocket, R.I., was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate state drug laws and resisting arrest, police said.
Another man, Jose Rodriguez, 29, of 584 Concord St., Framingham, was charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license, police said.
The arrests took place near Larry's Package Store on North Main Street.
While police were not available to comment on the arrests, witness John Mogan of Bellingham said he was walking out of the shop when he noticed that officers had pulled over a maroon Ford F-150 pickup truck.
As the driver reached under the seat to retrieve something, the officers rushed up, pulled him out and pinned him on the ground before handcuffing him, Mogan said.
"He's a lucky kid he didn't get shot," the Bellingham resident said.
Mogan said officers then turned their attention to another man at the adjacent Mobil gas station, drawing their guns on him before placing him under arrest.
As they searched the pickup truck, Mogan said, officers pulled out a gallon freezer bag full of a green substance. Later, a tow truck driver hauled away a maroon Honda sedan, taken from the gas station, and the pickup truck.
"The cops handled it great," Mogan said. |
