11 Cities To Get More Than $1M In Grants PDF Print E-mail

BOSTON -- U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan is handing out just over $1 million to 11 cities across the state in an effort to stem gang violence.

The Project Safe Neighborhood and Anti-Gang Initiative grant funds will be used to support law enforcement and community or faith based programs.

Sullivan said the money will help combat crime and gang violence across Massachusetts.
Cities sharing in the grant include Boston, Brockton, Fall River, Haverhill, Holyoke, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, New Bedford, Springfield and Worcester.

Officials said previous rounds of funding from the Project Safe Neighborhood program have been used to increase officer training, prevention and intervention programming and gun violence reduction strategies.

More than $1.5 billion has been committed nationwide since 2001.
