Some people haven't been around here very long, so I'll help clue you all in, prospective test takers.

It's an EXTREME rarity, to get hired from one of these, or any non-civil service test, without already having completed the full time academy. Score means very little on these tests, as they can and will bypass you for a candidate that is already trained and experienced.

These are simply just the facts of getting hired in Mass.

I wouldn't recommend a strategy of perseverance.

Tell me about about 3 months ago I took a non civil test for the town of Westwood. About 700 of us payed a $100 dollars a pop and only one guy got hired and two of their reserves were appointed full time officers

If anyone wants to see their future talk with some 50 yr old about taking civil service tests. Just yesterday the local UPS guy had the same story of taking umpteen tests, but ultimately staying with UPS to feed his family.

Disabled Vets
Vets
Par-10
Political appointments
The rest of us

LAPD is looking for lots of help. We have a great guy here on Masscops for a local contact and you'll do more police work in one year out in LA then would in a small town back here for your whole career.

Let me guess...he's from Revere? Great guy and was great for comic relief. He was in my reserve academy class. I don't know his name - I just always called him Revere and he was okay with that. :D

Sent from my flux capacitor using 1.21 gigawatts!

I cannot believe the cost of taking these tests these days. Freakin' disgusting. My last test was about 17 years ago. I can't recall what I paid, but it was NO WHERE NEAR what you guys are talking about. Highway robbery to say the least. Good luck to you all. 80, 100 bucks? I have to agree in that it sure sounds like a scam.

Centuries ago when I took test we paid a $60 deposit by check and got our checks back if we showed up for the test. If you no showed they kept and cashed the check. The tests are expensive (some of them) and cities and towns don't want to eat the cost.

UPS guys going to academies and being very popular. Sounds like some kind of underground movement, a subculture if you will.
