I drove so I could get to work and then the next day to get home. Otherwise I wouldn't have and didn't the rest of the day on Tuesday getting my car from the mall on Wednesday morning. I feel it's sad that the state has to impose a travel ban but it's not so much to coddle idiots who will drive cars that can't handle snow, it's to make it safer for emergency workers who have fewer peoples asses to pull out of snow banks, protect tow truck drivers who won't have to pull cars out of snow banks, protect us from higher rates of insurance when companies have to pay innocent people off who were hit by said idiots, and to allow the plows to do their job correctly, which does happen now and then.
If I were a trooper, I'd be calling the governor myself and saying, "Thanks Gov, I could stay inside a garage and NOT have to risk my life saving some dumbass who just HAD to show the world how good a driver he was in snow."
If you have to be somewhere, you have no choice but to go out. We all know there are loads of people who will defy rules and regulations and laws for various reasons. We also know there are plenty of people who, if not for a rule, regulation or law would do stupid and unnecessary thing and a very large portion of those don't ONLY because someone has to TELL THEM NO. We've all seen it on Detail. You're standing there directing traffic, vehicle and pedestrian, directing everyone away from an obvious construction site. There's caution tape, there are cones, maybe barrels and YOU. Most will get the hint immediately. "Oh, there's clearly a situation I should avoid." and go away. But we've all had those nitwits who will ask, "Can I go THIS way?" Of all those people who could clearly see the construction site, we all know a larger majority would still try to go through an obvious hazard if not for being told "NO". Screw the idiot if he gets himself killed, but it's the construction workers who might get hurt simply trying to get the job done. The blizzard was the equivalent of the construction site. A very obvious hazard that should be avoided but if not for someone saying no and those who WILL follow instructions, the roads would have been horrid. Every call I had (thankfully not THAT many) on Monday night was so much easier to get to and clear because I didn't have people out there showing off their driving skills, or having to go to rather unimportant jobs or out to eat, or what have you. The roads were clear and every emergency vehicle that DID have to be out, got around well, all things considered.
Travel Ban For EVER! It made my getting home so much more easy as well since there was hardly anyone to get in my way as I cautiously made my way home at about 40 mph on 93. If not for the travel ban, I would have been lucky to do 20, the roads wouldn't have been nearly as clear because there would be numerous cars still being pulled out from the night before and all night long.
I don't think of the Travel Ban as a restriction of anyone freedoms, I think it's a restriction of morons, and common sense. Sorry Hush, we've agreed on many things but not here.
