Okay so this popped up on another LEO board I was browsing and wanted to post it here in hopes of generating some (tempered discussion).

As the video will show, a man comes to a commissioners meeting with a few complaints, at one point he walks over to a female board member and touches her, this prompts the response of two armed security guards follow shortly thereafter. One of the guards walks over to the male and reaches for the man's camera in what appears to be an attempt to either a) confiscate the camera or b) turn it so that the camera is not on him. At this point, the aggrivated man stands up, pulls away from the guard and begins to unload on him with punches to the head. The guard, stunned, falls back into a chair and is able to push the male back a few feet. While this is happening, people being to shout and run for the door, thus making it harder for the second security guard to get to his partner. Just as the second guard gets to the two, the first guard turns to his side, and draws his firearm as the male returns to continue punching him. As the second guard gets hands on, the first guard's gun is discharged once (if you look closely, it misses the males leg by mere inches as well as the guard partner) and the second guard is able to take the male to the ground and continue fighting. The first guard holsters his weapon, and sits back down in the chair, watching the scuffle unfold (at first I was surprised he didn't join in, but then it dawned on me that given his age and amount of punches to the head he took, it's possible he was stunned and taken aback). Eventually more security personnel arrive and they are able to cuff the male and call the police. (I should also note that while the scuffle occurred, the male bit the second security guard approximately twice)

Now, I have no doubts that the gun should have gone off. The guard was sucker punched and the male was unrelenting in his attempts to incapacitate the guard.

I'm hoping to get some input from those of you who face this kind of stuff everyday. So please don't misinterpret this as a "I am a college student and know it all" or a "respect every amendment however people want to interpret it" kind of thing.

    1) Was the guard right in reaching for the man's camera in the way he did? It seems a little aggressive instead of asking him to put it down or point it elsewhere. It seems like this launched the entire 'fight' and it makes me think that had the guard not initially gone for the camera it might've been a different outcome.

That's all, thanks in advance! Hopefully it doesn't create a shitstorm :D

The guard should maybe have not simply tried to take the man's camera. Not sure why he drew his weapon. He may very well have felt that, 'this crazy man is going to kill me!' HOWEVER, there is NO doubt in my mind that Skidmore is a mental case. He's a lunatic crusader and an asshole. Ok, so I don't agree with the security officer going for his camera, but that was NOT self defense on the part of Skidmore, it was a vicious attack, pure and simple and he should do a fair amount of time.
Skidmore could have simply spoken his piece and been done with it. He started with the inappropriate touching of the clerk and his bit about security doing inappropriate touching was meaningless. He can say whatever he wants about what he saw, or THINKS he saw, but, he touched HER right in front of numerous people. We can't see what he did, but it's a safe bet that if that other woman made a point of saying something, and she was only 3 feet or so from what she saw. I'd call what SHE said she saw pretty damn reliable.
Sick son of a bitch who feels HE can do whatever he wants in the name of HIS agenda.
And the Supreme Court ruled YEARS ago, no one has the right to resist a lawful arrest. You don't like that you were arrested? Get a lawyer and get yourself acquitted. It's not like in a dictatorship or even the south 50 years ago where you can get arrested and them simply vanish.

And the self defense argument MIGHT have held up had he simply pushed the officer away, he went at him with a determination to seriously hurt him and then continued with the other officer. And BITING? Oh, Please.

Skidmore is out of his mind.

Photography is not a crime, but assault and battery is, asshole. (not you, visible25, Skidmore)

    Wow... So much fail here.

    1. Skidmark punches like a complete pussy. Those strikes are doing very little damage, if any, but that's really besides the point.

    2. The Deputy that got punched... And yeah, I'm gonna MMQB that a bit. In my own opinion, not expert, not based on LE training or experience, but simply based on years of some type of martial art, I don't think he has what it takes anymore. He fails to engage into the fight after his partner grapples with Skidmark. After he shoots, he had no idea what to do. He wasn't KO'd, he was still able to stand and had gross motor skills available. Holstered the gun, pulled out his phone, etc.

I don't really see anything wrong with the shooting either. Red zone strikes, right? Valid all day if I'm correct? He second guesses himself though, and let's his partner fight the loser. His partner did a great job however, bundled him right up, took him to the ground. Had solid side control, cross faced him to the floor again. I was impressed by him.

Moustache man is fucking useless, time to hang it up before you get someone killed.
Soak up a bunch of punches
    Draw and discharge your firearm.
Sit down and remain seated while your partner struggles with a violent suspect
Dick around with your watch band
Move closer to the struggle, but continue to provide absolutely no help whatsoever.

The only things he DIDN'T do was apply moustache wax and clean his glasses.

Too bad the camera was going. That moron needed to go to the ER. The stunt with touching the clerk was intended to have a show down with security. He was looking for a fight and got it. Luckily he was some just some bugged out loser and not some 25 yr old weight lifter.

Should be some sort of mayhem charge to go with the biting. Hope he spends allot of time in jail.

Going right for the camera was just going to provoke a response. I'm assuming these guys were law enforcement of some capacity, even if authority was just for the building. Could have seized camera as evidence of an assault but needed to be smarter about it. Verbal commands, escort outside once partner comes up when verbal commands were not followed, etc. May have been for naught but you don't know until you try.

His lack of action bothers the hell out of me, but I'm not going to condemn him. If his partner condemned him, knowing as he does, I'd side with him 100%, but yeah, he really should have at least attempted to do SOMETHING more, no question. I'm guessing he was somewhat stunned and once that trigger was pulled, no doubt he began to picture his career gone, his pension gone and a potential for criminal charges. He may have been right to do it (I can't say I would, but then again, I'm not in that situation at the moment) but in this day and age.....

    Lets see:

    - No communication between the partners when they first walked in the room.
    - Why did one partner stay all the way at the other end of the room instead of both walking up together to deal with a man who they already knew was a problem?
    - The second partner was slow to react when the fight first started and seemed to take his sweet time getting to the aid of his partner.
    - Don't take it personal when a nutjob does something like this, it's what they do so we should expect it from them.

My friend works court security in NH. An armed position, with very minimal training. Also a resting place for retired guys. Some have a wealth of knowledge and skills, others are already mentally switched off and treat the job like its a Wal-Mart greeter position. This guy was clearly unprepared for what was about to happen, and that was his fault. He was not expecting a confrontation, and if he lost control of his gun that could have gone very badly very quickly. And then he quit, in the middle of a fight. Sat down, and gave up. Its time for him to hang up his gun, and take that Wal-Mart greeter position if he needs the extra income. I'd be less harsh if he actually put forth ANY effort to defend himself, or even more unforgivably...his partner.

The question I have is , Why did the security guard decide that action on his part was required ? It appears that his action escalated the problems. Had he stood where he was and let the debate continue about the "inappropiate touching" ,which cannot be seen in the video, it may have come to a satisfactory conclusion and not ended the way it did. The person touched could have pressed charges against Skidmore in do course.
Skidmore does not appear to brandish a weapon so I can only conclude that the guard felt fear for his life and decided to pull his weapon which went off during the struggle .
Of course , I feel Skidmore really LOST IT and he had NO cause for Pummeling and biting. Had he allowed the guard to proceed with whatever he was going to do and followed the guards instruction he would not have ended up in jail. He will get his just reward.
IMHO I see a meeting that must have been scheduled to resolve issues and escalated due to Skidmore's actions and the guards actions and now more meetings will be scheduled and probably have a police presence to help prevent any more issues.
