Agent: I was ordered to let U.S. guns into Mexico (Merged Threads)

(CBS News) WASHINGTON - Federal agent John Dodson says what he was asked to do was beyond belief.

He was intentionally letting guns go to Mexico?

"Yes ma'am," Dodson told CBS News. "The agency was."

An Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms senior agent assigned to the Phoenix office in 2010, Dodson's job is to stop gun trafficking across the border. Instead, he says he was ordered to sit by and watch it happen.

When you think back on some of the bullshit Clinton pulled and got away with, seeing these guys hand the enemy weapons that were used against one of our own is totally FUBAR.

"Mexican violence is due to evil guns from the United States!"

This is fukkin outrageous!!!!!!!!!! That ATF Agent has some cajones thank God. I can't believe CBS is actually running something that shows this administration in sucha hippocrtical bad light.

ATF, DOJ Launch Damage Control Effort Over Growing Project Gunrunner Scandal

A major scandal is developing around a signature U.S. effort to track and stop the flow of illicit weapons to Mexico, as officials at the Department of Justice close ranks, hoping to cover up an investigation critics say is responsible for an untold number of dead.
The investigation was known as Project Gunrunner -- a joint task force headed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Department of Justice -- that took place in 2010.
It was conceived after the bureau was criticized for not conducting more complex investigations on straw buyers -- people who were allowed to purchase guns legally in the U.S.-- who illegally transport guns into Mexico and sell them to cartels.
So rather than just take down low-level straw buyers here and there, the agency hoped by ‘letting the guns walk’ the sales would lead investigators to cartel members higher up in the organization.
However, whistle-blowers say that never happened.

Hmm, we can't substantiate our claims that guns are flooding into Mexico from the US.....so, we'll just let some guns into Mexico.

    Really that simple. Thanks ATF!

So, it is not the fault of 2nd Amendment and American gun owners. It is the fault of Comrade Holder and his socialist agents @ the DOJ that guns are getting into an already lawless Mexico.

Conspiracy theory: The DOJ and BATFE actually were the so-called straw purchasers and moved the guns into Mexico to try to shift public opinion back against the 2nd amendment.

While I'm always extremely cautious of conspiracy theories, but an FBI agent alleging a policy backed up by documents and reported by CBS? I don't know how this doesn't have any validity. Plus, it prompted an investigation by Chuck Grassley, who's always struck me as a straight shooter.

Whether there's futher outcry will depend on whether this gets picked up in the coming news cycles.

On one side, US allowing murders in a poorer, foreign country. On the other, a beloved Democratic adminsitration that can do no wrong. Depends on which one of those two the liberal media finds more compelling.

This border shit pisses me off. Build the fence, double the number of border patrol agents we have, lockup the bastards who come across unwelcome (sentences pending on crime, crossing over, crossing over with a gun, drugs etc..) and stop NG deployments to the middle east and start deploying them for 3-9 month tours along the border.

O wait………………………………………that all makes too much sense, fuck me.

Obama Administration Under Mounting Pressure for Botched Gun Trafficking Investigation

    By William La Jeunesse

Congress and the Department of Justice appear to be headed for a showdown this week over documents detailing Operation Fast and Furious, the botched gunrunning sting set up by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives that funneled more than 1,700 smuggled weapons from Arizona to Mexico.
The Justice Department has until Wednesday to deliver to congressional investigators a stack of records and emails naming the individuals responsible for the gun trafficking operation that may have killed dozens, if not hundreds of Mexicans, and is becoming a growing embarrassment for the Obama administration.
Under Project Gunrunner and the Phoenix off-shoot, dubbed Fast and Furious, the ATF encouraged gun store owners to sell to straw buyers -- consumers who they suspected of working on behalf of Mexican drug cartels.
Project Gunrunner purposely allowed the straw buyers to illegally buy and export guns only to see where they surfaced in Mexico. Using this investigative technique, the ATF hoped to take down the entire gun trafficking organization. Instead, records show it allowed more than 1,700 guns, including hundreds of AK-47s and high-powered, armor-piercing .50-caliber rifles to be trafficked to Mexico
Buying guns for non-personal use is illegal. Yet gun store owners were assured by ATF agents the buyers were under investigation and the guns were being intercepted before crossing into Mexico.

This showdown is going to be great. Get the beer and popcorn. Once the agents start getting dragged before Congress, the birds will start singing. I do believe Holder and Obama will find that their socialist & racist policies have not gained them the loyalty of all federal employees.

    I'm no expert, but...

That has got to be the DUMBEST idea I've ever heard of. Allowing weapons (even anti-material rifles!) to be transported into to a war zone for purposes of tracking where they end up? And how exactly, is the DOJ or ATF supposed to track a weapon sold in a another country? Did they Lojack 'em??

The Obama administration epitomizes the term, "Epic Fail." Nice job fellas... That plan backfired. If the attempt WAS in fact a ploy to divert negative attention to the 2nd amendment, I'm glad it went down in flames.

    Respectfully disagree...

The media will be too busy with singing Obama's praise with his "saving" the Libyan people, and initiating the removal of the genocidal tyrant Gaddafi (If that indeed happens).

I can assure you (therefor agree) that the vast majority of my fellow federal employees who are GS and WG, not appointed SES, are not enamored with Obama.

More Than 1,300 Guns Were Bought Illegally by Suspect Buyers Under ATF's 'Gunrunner' Program

It is the closest thing to a smoking gun congressional investigators have in their probe of Project Gunrunner -- a program that was intended to stop the flow of guns to criminals in Mexico but instead allowed those guns to be smuggled to Mexico instead.
An internal memo from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives shows that U.S. officials allowed criminals to buy 1,318 guns worth nearly $1 million, even after they suspected the buyers were working for Mexican drug cartels, and that the agency's effort to stop the guns had "yielded little or no results."
That memo came to light Wednesday at a Senate Judiciary Hearing and provided by Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa. The ATF memo shows a list of 15 suspects, all later indicted, who bought guns on behalf of Mexican cartels.

Click here to see memo (see page 1)

Those suspects are known in the trade as straw buyers, or people who legally purchase guns and illegally resell them, in many cases to Mexican cartel members across the border.

I guess they thought they could go up the chain like a narcotics investigation. Sounds good, right? The problem is narcotics don't kill agents when they're sold to bad guys.

Almost four moths after this story came to light, the mainstream media finally can't hide from this debacle any futher. In this load of garbage, the Washington Post attempts to put their own spin on what happened, blaming the NRA for the shitshow that was Operation Fast and Furious. The best part is, all the comments tear apart the editorial to shreds.

How Congress can empower the ATF

    By Editorial, Published: June 26

THE GUN RIGHTS lobby has spent considerable time and energy in pursuit of one goal: crippling the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). It has largely succeeded — and with dire consequences.

Concerned to the point of paranoia about the erosion of the constitutional right to keep and bear arms, the National Rifle Association and far too many lawmakers have fought against virtually every proposal to empower the bureau to better track and crack down on illegal firearms. They have won reductions in the ATF’s already meager budget. They have restricted the bureau’s ability to share information with other law enforcement agencies. They have kept the bureau rudderless for the past six years by blocking confirmation of new directors. And they continue to fight new rules that would allow the bureau to track bulk sales of long guns that have played a major role in the drug-fueled violence in Mexico.
