    MIAMI —
A Florida trooper with ties to Massachusetts was critically injured when he was hit by a vehicle Friday morning.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Trooper Carlos Rosario was conducting speed enforcement on State Road 836 in Miami. He was outside of his patrol car on the shoulder when a vehicle lost control and struck several patrol cars before hitting Rosario.

Rosario suffered serious injuries from the impact and was flown to Jackson Ryder Trauma Center for treatment. Officials said Rosario has been a trooper for 10 years.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported that Rosario grew up in Worcester and is a graduate of Burncoat Senior High School. A family friend said Rosario’s parents and a sister still live in the city.

“Carlos is a great guy,” Nydia Febo told the Telegram & Gazette. “Anybody that you ask (says) he’s a great guy, a Christian, nice to everybody, a basketball coach...active in the community.”

A GoFundMe page was set up in Rosario’s name to help with expenses.
