Anyone know what PD's have plain clothes units assigned to the patrol division? If so, how does it work (90 days rotating, bid position, etc )and any grants out there for something like that?

Waltham used to have a really nice program, typically 90 days but it could be extended depending on current assignments. Sadly, it's gone.

Springfield has a recently formed street crimes unit. They are generally plainclothes, they usually wear a black jacket or t-shirt with large "POLICE" logo. So they are not exactly undercover. They respond to priority in progress calls throughout the city in unmarked crown vics. I believe its through supervisor recommendation rather than bidding but I could be wrong. This unit was only formed this past summer to address the increase in violence.

I believe Framingham PD had a full time Anit Crime (Street Crimes) unit.
Ashland PD puts out patrol officers in plain clothes regularly. But it's not every shift every day.
